Mahlako Financial Services recently participated in the Pension Funds & Alternative Investments Africa Conference in Mauritius, where the firm’s full leadership was represented. Directors Meta Mhlarhi and Mitesh Pema contributed as panel speakers, while Director Makole Mupita attended alongside industry leaders, institutional investors and asset managers.
The conference served as an important platform to engage on the evolving role of institutional capital in supporting Africa’s long-term growth, with discussions centred on infrastructure investment, sustainable finance and the future of alternative investments across the continent.
Session 3, “Sustainable Investing Reassessed: Integrating ESG, SDGs and Long-Term Value Creation”
During his session, Mitesh explored how sustainable investing is being redefined within the industry. He highlighted a growing shift toward embedding ESG principles directly into investment decision-making processes.
A key takeaway was the importance of designing ESG approaches that reflect Africa’s realities, where economic inclusion, job creation and resource security remain central to sustainable development.
Session 5 “Building the Future: Institutional Strategies for Scalable and Sustainable Infrastructure Investment.”
Meta participated in a session focused on institutional strategies for scalable infrastructure investment, highlighting the need for investment models that balance financial discipline with developmental outcomes.
Her contribution emphasised that infrastructure investment in Africa requires long-term partnerships, robust governance frameworks and investment structures capable of attracting pension fund capital at scale. The discussion reinforced that well-structured infrastructure assets can provide both stable returns and meaningful socio-economic impact.
Mahlako is an example and a living testimony that you can invest in women, you can invest in infrastructure, and you can invest in Africa and still deliver impact and make proper returns. – Meta Mhlarhi
Participation in the conference reaffirmed Mahlako’s role in contributing to investment solutions that balance performance with meaningful impact, supporting sustainable growth across the continent.
