Mahlako Team

The investment team consists of young black professionals, majority women, with a diverse skill-set that complements the needs of the Fund.

 

The team has collectively managed over ZAR5 billion in funds and was at the forefront of the development of the renewable energy sector in South Africa

  • Makole has over 18 years of private equity infrastructure finance and corporate finance experience. Prior to co-establishing Mahlako Financial Services, she was a Portfolio Manager for the Infrastructure & Development Assets (IDEAS) Fund at Old Mutual for six years where she was involved in the management of a ZAR2 billion Infrastructure Fund. She studied at Wits University and the University of Natal and trained with Investec Bank where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant outside public practice.

    Makole has been involved in several landmark Public-Private Partnership (PPP) transactions including the DTI Building; the DOE Building; and the Bloemfontein Prison. She was also part of the team involved in the turn around strategy of Kelvin Power; the only Coal Independent Power Producer in South Africa at the time. Makole chairs the Audit committee of Wip hold and has served on the boards of Rain prop (DTI Building), Sethekgo (DOE Building), Bloemfontein Concessions, Matola Gas, Kelvin Power, and Trade Investment Limpopo. Makole currently serves on the boards for Solar Capital DeAar 1 & 3. Makole is also a founder, member, and director of the Black Energy Professionals Association.

  • Meta has over 17 years of professional and finance industry experience advising both corporate and public-sector clients. She commenced her career and completed her articles at Deloitte, where she worked in the Entrepreneurial Services and Accounting and Auditing Technical divisions, before joining Investec Bank’s Corporate Finance division. In addition to her banking experience, Meta has been involved in establishing various projects in energy and other sectors, has experience restructuring businesses; sourcing, managing and evaluating investments and capital raising.

    Meta has extensive governance and management experience and has served and chaired numerous boards and audit committees. She currently serves on the board of AON South Africa. Meta is also a co-founder and the current chairperson of the Black Energy Professionals Association. Meta has received numerous accolades including the Entrepreneur of the year award by the African Women Chartered Accountants and certificate awarded by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Centenary of President Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu acknowledging her as a Woman of Fortitude.

  • Kgabang participated in the graduate program at the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) in the Private Equity division for two years where she got exposed to varies deals in South Africa and the rest of Africa. Kgabang also participated in a 3-week training program at Goldman Sachs in New York which exposed her to the international market. She recently joined Mahlako as an Investment analyst in the energy fund.

    Kgabang started her career at Coronation Fund Managers , working in the client services department.She was assigned to deal with any queries ranging from internal investment process to portfolio composition.

    She moved to HSBC bank in the global banking division. She was part of the team that was responsible for maintaining a relationship with Naspers,Steinhoff,Distell and other companies with international footprint. She was also responsible for identifying suitable products for the portfolio companies and accessing their credit quality.

    Kgabang than joined the Public investment Corporation as a graduate in the Private Equity division. Her role in the team was to screen investment opportunities against the fund mandate. She was also responsible for preparing internal and external Investment Committee documents. The private equity team at the PIC was sector agnostic which exposed her to transactions in many sectors.

    She recently joined Mahlako Financial Services team as an Investment Analyst.
